Senior Portraits: To Bring Out And Brag About Once You're Older

Whether you have just finished high school or have finally made it through all your college courses, a graduation is always something to celebrate. Make as many memories as you can of your senior life while you still can, before you fly off into the unknown world. One great way of keeping these memories alive is through having your senior portrait taken, something you can look back on after a few years and smile at how happy you were on that faithful day.

Senior portraits refer to the formal picture taken of students a few days after they have begun their days as a high school or college senior. Senior portraits can be found in America dated back to as late as the 1880s, wherein the seniors were photographed wearing their togas and graduation caps, and staring seriously into the camera lens. This type of senior portrait, wherein students wore their graduation attire, changed after a few decades, to the male students wearing smart looking tuxedo jackets, and the female students creating the illusion of wearing a formal gown through using silk and fur drapes and a string of pearls. As you can imagine, this trend didn't last for long, as senior students soon took to trying out different poses, different articles of clothing, different props and a variety of backgrounds. Some seniors took to wearing their best clothes for the senior portrait, while others decided to include their pets in their moment of glory. A trend for student athletes was for them to wear their uniforms or Letterman jackets for the senior portrait, and pose with a prop from the sport they play, like a basketball or a tennis racket for example. Have a look at these qualities, blog post.

Aside from keeping the memory of you senior years alive, a senior portrait has several other uses. Senior portraits are usually added into the school year book and the graduation announcements, but they may also be given away to close friends and relatives, in order for them to remember the day you took another step into this big, big world.  A trend for most parents has been to printing out a large copy of their child's senior portrait in order to hang it in a special place around the house, for guests and friends to admire whenever they visit.

Regardless of the fact that you may be unsure of what to do with your senior portrait once you have it printed, remember that a photo is always a good way of keeping a memory alive. In order to make sure that the photo comes out nice, remember to wear something decent, and keep the props to a minimum.
